Meet Dr. Orit Goldhamer
Licensed in New York and New Jersey, Dr. Orit Goldhamer specializes in helping preadolescents (tweens), adolescents, and young adults navigate life’s most challenging moments.
Dr. G draws on her nearly two decades of experience using a variety of techniques to tailor her psychotherapy treatment based on her clients’ individual needs.
Her days are spent as a School Psychologist at The Churchill School and Center in New York City. This immersion allows her to have a solid understanding of the current daily lives of tweens and teens.
With regard to her theoretical orientation, Dr. G combines knowledge of development and family systems with supportive therapy, integrating Cognitive Behavior and Dialectical Behavior strategies when appropriate.
She conducts comprehensive psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessments to pinpoint learning disabilities and emotional issues, identify appropriate school placement, and provide recommendations and resources.
Dr. G understands that parents often play an integral role in their child and teen clients’ therapeutic process.
Regardless of whether her clients are tweens, teens, or young adults, she approaches psychotherapy in a collaborative way.
No matter where her clients’ difficulties may stem from—school, work, family dynamics or social situations—Dr. G’s extensive experience in school and clinical settings gives her the tools to address a wide range of stressors including interfering anxiety, peer conflicts, divorce, parent-child relationship issues, and low self-esteem.
She has comprehensive and broad-ranging understanding of adoption and is gender and sexuality-affirming.
Training & Education
Dr. G received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at New York University and her doctoral degree at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University in Combined School-Clinical Child Psychology.
Her certifications include New York State School Psychologist Certification (Permanent), New York State- and New Jersey State-Licensed Psychologist, Certified Animal-Assisted Therapist (Delta Society), and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Crisis Prevention-Northwell Health (formerly LIJ).
